The entry into force of the new Legal Framework for Cybersecurity has introduced new responsibilities for organisations covered by the legislation in Portugal.
One of the first requirements is registering the organisation on the MyCiber platform, provided by the National Cybersecurity Centre (CNCS).
For organisations that were already operating when the platform became available, September 15, 2026, is an important date to keep in mind..
But who needs to register? What documents are required? And does registering on MyCiber mean that an organisation is already compliant?
In this article, we explain the key points businesses need to know.
The MyCiber is a platform provided by the National Cybersecurity Centre (CNCS) for registering and identifying entities covered by Portugal's new Legal Framework for Cybersecurity.
The platform allows organisations within its scope to submit the required information to the CNCS and represents one of the first steps towards meeting the new cybersecurity obligations.
However, it is important to distinguish between two things:
Registering on MyCiber does not, in itself, mean that an organisation complies with all the requirements of the new legal framework.
The new framework establishes a broader set of responsibilities relating to risk management, the security of systems and networks, incident response, business continuity and resilience.
The registration requirement applies to entities covered by the new Legal Framework for Cybersecurity..
Its scope depends, among other factors, on the organisation's activities, the sector in which it operates and the characteristics of the entity itself.
Therefore, before starting the registration process, it is important to confirm whether the organisation is actually covered and which obligations apply to it.
Therefore, before starting the registration process, it is important to confirm whether the organisation is actually covered and which obligations apply to it.
One of the most important dates for organisations that were already operati September 15, 2026
The MyCiber platform became available on June 23, 2026 . Organisations already operating on that date are subject to the corresponding registration deadline.
Organisations that start operating at a later date have a separate deadline, calculated from the start of their activities, in accordance with the applicable legal framework.
If your organisation is covered, do not leave registration until the last few days.
Preparing the documentation in advance and confirming who is authorised to represent the organisation can help prevent delays.
Before starting the MyCiber registrationprocess, the organisation should ensure that it has the necessary authentication methods and documentation available.
The accepted authentication methods include:
It may also be necessary to provide proof of the authority to represent the organisation.
If the legal representative cannot validate their representative status through the Professional Attributes Certification System (SCAP),additional documentation proving their authority may be required.
If the process is carried out by someone other than the legal representative, documentation proving the relevant mandate or delegated authority must also be provided.
The organisation's MyCiber registration can be completed by:
The organisation's legal representative
or
A person who has been duly authorised to act on its behalf.
In the second case, it is particularly important to ensure that documentation is available to prove the authority granted to carry out the process.
Incomplete or inadequate documentation may prevent registration from being validated and require additional information to be submitted.
No. This is one of the most important distinctions for organisations covered by the legislation.
The registation on MyCiber is an obligation, but the new Legal Framework for Cybersecurity establishes additional responsibilities that organisations must take into account.
Depending on the entity and the obligations applicable to it, these may include areas such as:
So meeting the registration deadline should therefore be only the first step towards a broader compliance and resilience strategy.
